Chocolate Babka – Rich sweet bread filled with dark chocolate

Chocolate Babka

So lets break it up shall we first..What in the world is babka? Babka is a sweet rich bread traditionally made in Jewish households though not as loved as you would think(come on look at the picture!).That’s because the last century babka bread was dry and dairy free as opposed to the the modern day version which is a soft rich bread – cake which has the best of all worlds. It’s a love child of bread, croissant and cake, if three could produce a child that is.It’s probably best described as a sweet yeasted bread with a decadent filling. Today’s Babka has eggs, butter and milk giving it the richness a sweet bread deserves but the real clincher is in …

Dark Chocolate Salted Caramel Pots

Chocolate Caramel Pots

There is a dearth of laughter in our lives..Most entertainment today hovers around suffering, almost all critically acclaimed movies are based on tragedies, most bestselling books are about death, newspapers are about little else than Rapes..Even children rhymes are about how 5 little ducks went out one day and only 4 little ducks came back or how Humpty Dumpty falls. The classic nursery rhyme -Ringa Ringa Roses is about the symptoms of a plague which killed thousands,if popular folklore is to be believed. So yes we might have spent our childhood going in circles singing about a plague which almost killed a whole generation of people in Europe. Since the past 2 years, I have become extremely wary of such stories.I don’t …

Homemade Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups

Homemade Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups

I and my husband once had a tiff at an airport.I wanted to stop and buy some Reese Peanut Butter Cups but he didn’t want to stop cause we were very late and at an unfamiliar airport. But I was in a pig-headed mode and adamant cause you don’t get these in India,I couldn’t care less about the fact that we already had tonnes of chocolate in our bags or the fact that we could potentially miss our flight home or at the least might have to run lugging up the baby and allot the gate.I forget which airport this was but it was one with those with gazillion gates and about a kilometre long walk way but that didn’t matter.I …

Poached Pear Frangipane Tart

It feels like I have grown leaps and bounds in the past one year. Not just because I have become a mother..That is the biggest part of it but also how much I have learnt and discovered about food. This tart is the best example of how far I have come in my food journey since I started this blog. Here is my old post of a Pear Frangipane Tart and the difference between the two couldn’t be any further apart. The most stark is the photography. There is no major change in the equipment I am using now but the change is in the time I now invest in learning about photography.Cant say I am a Pro at it but I have …

Dark Chocolate Brownies

Dark Chocolate Brownie

These are addictive and so make with caution! These brownies sort of just happened. I wanted to bake and I was out of baking soda that’s when I started searching for recipes which were heavy on chocolate and light on baking soda. As always Jamie Oliver had the answer to this conundrum.(Side note:I love him!I love him! I love him!..He is so inspiring!!! I hope to meet him one day!).Jamie Oliver calls them Bloomin Brilliant Brownies. For this recipe I suggest you use good quality chocolate and not the compound chocolate(usually used for baking) cause the taste difference is phenomenal!I swear by Amul’s Dark Chocolate line.I have made these brownies using  the 70 percent Bitter Chocolate bar and the Mystic …

Chocolate Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting

Chocolate Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting

If you have been following my blog you would know I have been making a cake for every monthly milestone of our baby V.I want to do a different cake every month not only to celebrate the milestone but also to grow as a baker. We all had a number of requirements this time.I was pretty clear about the look of the cake. I wanted it to be a white cake with multicolor sprinklers. My brother and sister in law wanted  a chocolate cake and not some weird experimental nonsense(in their words). I didn’t want it to be too heavy cause I was going to frost the cake but I didn’t want it to be too light too. I looked around a lot …

When you know that chocolate lovers are coming home and you have nothing at hand except a bar of chocolate to offer them you can make this chocolate chunk bread.as the name suggests its quick and non-fussy.
