Healthy Banana Raisin Muffins

Banana Raisin Muffin

How I wish I could twist and turn the words and sound all funny like MrsFunnyBones. She is my all time favourite Indian writer. Her wit and sarcasm has no comparison in my literary world.Though I confess that my literary world isn’t that wide cause though I might have read quite a few books(in my time) they were mostly junk about some stupid Viking or a Rodeo. How I wish I had held the hand(figuratively off course!) of Salman Rushdie instead of Johanna Lindsay, then I would have sounded way more witty on this blog then my current wordless state. Putting aside my lack of writing skills today I present to you another healthy baked goodie. These are Sugar Free and Uber healthy. These …

Spaghetti in Spinach Béchamel Sauce

Spaghetti in Spinach Béchamel Sauce

Spinach is good for you..my mom says it..my father says it!(reluctantly)..Popoye says it..so it must be true! But eating boiled spinach is just yuck! No amount of sophistication can make boiled spinach tasty. That’s the fact of life…All nutritious food tastes bleh and all empty calories which give you love handles taste amazing!(Chocolate cake come to Mamma!!!) I refuse to eat steamed or boiled spinach but I do have some recipes up my sleeve to make spinach palatable actually enjoyable. The first being a Quiche.Second being Palak Paneer and this recipe stands at the third place-Pasta in Spinach Sauce. The sauce is simple enough..no baking..no roasting…It’s actually a spin on béchamel sauce with added spinach puree which gives it a lovely light …

Lemon Cranberry Pound Cake

Lemon Cranberry Pound Cake

I asked my husband to hide this cake away from me! Usually I give away a lot of cake to neighbours ,friends and people working in and around the apartment.I did pack this one too in a nice box to give it away but I think subconsciously I didn’t want to part with it! The lemon and cranberry lends sour notes to this buttery pound cake. The texture is rich and crumbly at the same time. From experience this cake gets better with days.I made it on a Friday and on Monday(day 4) this cake was even better than when I first took it out of the oven. I have adapted the recipe of  Vanilla Pound Cake Recipe from https://www.marthastewart.com which doesn’t …

Poached Pear Frangipane Tart

It feels like I have grown leaps and bounds in the past one year. Not just because I have become a mother..That is the biggest part of it but also how much I have learnt and discovered about food. This tart is the best example of how far I have come in my food journey since I started this blog. Here is my old post of a Pear Frangipane Tart and the difference between the two couldn’t be any further apart. The most stark is the photography. There is no major change in the equipment I am using now but the change is in the time I now invest in learning about photography.Cant say I am a Pro at it but I have …

Quick Cherry Tomato Sauce

Quick Cherry Tomato Sauce

My friend’s son loves my roasted tomato sauce with his spaghetti. He started eating this on his own by 7 months of age and on his fussy days this is my friends goto meal for him. Only catch being that the sauce takes prior planning and at-least 1 hour of oven time. I love the roasted tomato sauce to bits and this sauce doesn’t have the same depth of flavour bought by slow roasting the tomatoes, but this is way more quick and easy to make and soooooo much better than the bottled nonsense. It takes 20 minute start to finish and I am being conservative here. I am sure you will find the cream laden recipe versions of this sauce on the …

Coconut Cake with Banana Curd

Coconut Jaggery Cake with Banana Curd

I have been getting a lot of pats on my back along with some oh my god she is so jobless to and astonished and awestruck comments from people on the monthly cakes I have been making for baby Vansh’s milestones. A fair disclaimer here-These cakes are more for me than him cause he can’t really eat them.(Hence the extra 10 pounds that I have gained over and above my pregnancy weight! )He is more of a smoke screen here..giving me a reason to bake so many cakes cause otherwise it’s just me and my husband and our birthdays come only once a year.:D So coming to what I made this month for Vansh’s 7 month milestone.Firstly,I can’t believe he …

Hot Milk Cake with Saffron and Pistachios

Hot Milk Cake with saffron and Pistachios

The other day one of my friends was explaining to a stranger the kind of food I cook and he was a little perplexed. How would you describe what I make and post on this blog?A little cake,a little curry and a little love?A little Indian,a little Italian and maybe some asian? I think the best way my blog can be described is my personal food expression.I post what I make and eat. There are times when I want to eat healthy and there are times I want to indulge. There are times I crave food that I grew up with and there are times I want to experiment and try to replicate something I ate in one of my travels. I …

Orange Pound Cake with a Zesty Orange Glaze

Orange pound cake with zesty orange glaze

Who could have thought orange could compete with chocolate? But it can and how?! If chocolate cake is the deep dark secret then this is the bright sunny morning. If chocolate is the yin then this is the yang.Equally decadent in the most opposite way! I present to you a simple Orange Pound Cake with an orange glaze.Let me warn you first thought.Make lots of it.Dont even think of making half the recipe cause for sure nothing would be left by the time your guests arrive.I speak from experience! Healthy Zucchini Bread

Healthy Zucchini Quick Bread

Some days the baby doesn’t sleep at all and my chipotle Tacos go unphotographed cause he is so cranky and some days he sleeps for 3 hours and I am scared to start making anything cause you don’t know when he will wake up! Eternal Cycle of motherhood! One thing I should say is that having a baby is a great motivator. While I was pregnant I hardly cooked anything worthy but now I have so many ideas floating in my brain and only a few hours a day to execute them. It’s funny cause I had all the time on my hands before he came along and now I have to squeeze in 20 minutes of work in between his naps. This means I …

Cold Soba Noodles with Peanut Sauce

Cold Soba Noodles with Peanut Sauce

Sometimes the simplest ingredients available in your pantry come together in the most bewildering taste. This is the case with peanut butter, sesame, soy and honey. They have extremely different flavor profiles but together they create a magic like no other. Add to this crunchy freshness of cucumber just rounds off the dish to give the dish multiple textural dimensions. These Soba noodles in peanut sauce with red pepper and english cucumber is everything you could want on a lazy day.The balance is such that every ingredient has something to offer.Every texture has something to say. Caprese Chicken

Caprese Chicken

We have started growing our own herbs in the balcony recently and I am so very proud to report that so far we have Basil,Sage,Celery and Thyme! I love having fresh herbs at hand especially basil but I hate throwing it away when it wilts. It barely lasts for 2-3 days.So growing them in my balcony is all the more exciting! Here are some shots of the herbs from our balcony.Look at how the basil is encroaching on the other herbs pots! The seeds have been sourced from amazon and planted on our own in pots. Now for the actual topic of the post. This is actually a salad but I have used the same ingredients along with chicken and cooked it …

Grilled Eggplant Salad

Grilled Eggplant Salad

If you have been following me on instagram you would know that I have started a new food regime. I am going to take this a week at a time by following the paleo diet during the weekdays and maybe go a little crazy during the weekends. It would be the best if I could do the proper whole30 like last year again but it will be impossible with a baby. I can’t be too rigid with my food choices at the moment because one, I am providing nourishment to another human being and two ,taking care of that human being doesn’t let me have a schedule.Oh and there is a three..On days when he is cranky i can’t even …

Dark Chocolate Brownies

Dark Chocolate Brownie

These are addictive and so make with caution! These brownies sort of just happened. I wanted to bake and I was out of baking soda that’s when I started searching for recipes which were heavy on chocolate and light on baking soda. As always Jamie Oliver had the answer to this conundrum.(Side note:I love him!I love him! I love him!..He is so inspiring!!! I hope to meet him one day!).Jamie Oliver calls them Bloomin Brilliant Brownies. For this recipe I suggest you use good quality chocolate and not the compound chocolate(usually used for baking) cause the taste difference is phenomenal!I swear by Amul’s Dark Chocolate line.I have made these brownies using  the 70 percent Bitter Chocolate bar and the Mystic …

I feel that I only end up cribbing about the challenges of having a baby and never really tell you how awesome it is! So here are some things which will tell you how happy parenting makes me! Everytime he smiles and looks at me with those dynamite twinkly eyes something melts inside me!(like a choco lava cake.Sigh!!) Ragi Chocochip Cookies

Ragi Chocolate Chip Cookies

My search for healthy snacks led me to this recipe of Ragi Chocolate Chip Cookies. I ordered a few “healthy” snacks online and let’s just say it was a giant disappointment! When I placed the order I expected a box of ragi cookies but what I received was two cookies dipped in chocolate. It sure did taste good and it was labeled as healthy so even though I wasn’t happy with the quantity I was okay with it overall….Till I read the ingredients. It did have ragi but it also had refined flour and refined sugar so I don’t know why it was tagged as “healthy”. That’s when I decided to make my own Ragi Chocolate Chip Cookies .I adapted Sanjeev Kapoor’s …
