Healing Turmeric Soup

Healing Turmeric Soup

My eyes are watering while I write this..Not because of some emotion, though rage is definitely flowing through me because of this stupid weather bug that’s got us all over the sink, blowing with all our mights trying to clear our airways and somehow earning back our fundamentalest of the most fundamental right to breathe! Yes..All of us are sick…under the weather..One by one like dominos we caught the bug..Just when the person before is getting better the one after starts to feel the symptoms..We did the whole hoopla of going to the doctors(yes plural for the 3 of us)..getting paracetamols and the other paraphernalia but those things take time to kick in. Meanwhile, I decided to combine indian and Chinese …

Mexican Tortilla Soup

Mexican Tortilla Soup with easily available Indian ingredients

I feel great exhilaration in naturalizing recipes from different countries. It invigorates me, especially when I use what’s locally available here in India. This tortilla soup is one such recipe that I have adapted to make it easy to cook in an Indian kitchen. Indian food resembles the Mexican cuisine pretty closely in its use of tomatoes, cilantro, onions, cumin, cilantro. The base onion tomato sauces from these cuisines have a lot of overlapping ingredients and resemble each other in both appearance and taste. In fact Indian flat breads are made with Wheat and a very similar flatbread is made with cornmeal in Mexico and very famously called the Tortillas. Both the cuisines are very bold on flavours and heat. Definitely not a food for the faint hearted. …

Sweet Potato Soup Burnt Butter, Garlic & Sage

Sweet Potato Soup Burnt Butter, Garlic & Sage

I am writing this recipe before I have good pictures in hand cause I swear to you this is the best this that has happened to sweet potato all year! If you can get your hands on the orange kind of sweet potato then I will very highly(maybe a little vehemently) recommend you to make this soup. Its a creamy butter soup which on a rainy cold day will be the perfect companion for you and your kids! I say that because I did share a non salty version of this soup with my 8 month old baby. You can make this soup vegan and whole30 complaint by replacing the milk with coconut milk and omitting the butter.   About the …

Butternut Pumpkin Soup with Pork Sausage Croutons

There are three worst things you can do to while making soup.Add cornstarch to thicken it,add cream to make it smooth and the third and the worst , is to strain it through a sieve. Its like killing anything good in the ingredients by ambushing it from all sides and  firing bullets into it  and then repeatedly stabbing it and then putting it through..ok I am getting gory! But you get my point! Worst part is that it fools your brain into thinking that you have eaten something healthy but really you have just dumped a bowl full of carb heavy, nutrient deficient , fibre less liquid in your body! If you are trying to eat something healthy then stick to the …

Asparagus and Garlic Soup

The whole 30 journey has taught me how to make simple meals with a few quality ingredients. It’s a wonder that just 5 ingredients can make a soup so delectable that you wish you had made more! My soups always double as sauces but this recipe yields exactly one serving ,I wish I had made more of this asparagus and garlic soup. After tasting this ,I badly want to try making chicken with the sauce version of this soup.I am sure it will be mind epic blowing!! One word of caution though! Don’t eat a hot soup and frozen grapes together.I wasn’t sure which I liked more and which would lose the right temperature so I ended up interspersing the soup with …

Tomato Basil Soup

This is the most nifty magic trick up my sleeve. It’s an all purpose soup cum sauce.I always have some of this frozen in my fridge for an instant sauce. This simple soup has a million uses. You can make it into a Shorba- an indian soup by adding the quintessential tadka of cumin and chillies or make it italian by adding a dollop of pesto or cook your chicken breast in it. You can reduce it on the stove and with a splash of milk or cream and some herbs you can turn it into a pasta sauce! Most indian curries are tomato based so you can make a neat chicken curry or a Shahi Paneer with little milk. You can throw in …
