Thai Sweet and Spicy Cucumber Salad

Thai Sweet and Spicy Cucumber Salad

Thai Sweet and Spicy Cucumber Salad is my absolute favourite salad to make, especially when I am entertaining. In fact in my mind it’s an amazing appetizer not a mere salad. The dressing is the real bomb though and I think it would jazz up any kind of vegetable. It’s a Sweet,Spicy & tangy dressing- which is just what is needed to make the best salad dressing ever. It’s obviously Thai inspired as the name suggests.Traditionally fish sauce is also added in the dressing for an extra umami but I have skipped it in this dish. You can change the proportions of the ingredients as per your taste and preferences. This recipe will yield an extra spicy Thai Sweet and Spicy Cucumber Salad because …

Light & Fluffy Japanese CheeseCake – Cotton Cheese Cake

Light & Fluffy Japanese CheeseCake - Cotton Cheese Cake

I have been making Japanese CheeseCake for about 4 years now.I am updating the recipe in this blog post.Read my older post here. Every year, this is the one and only cake my husband asks for during his birthday. He isn’t a chocolate eater, doesn’t fancy cakes and cookies but a Japanese Cheesecake is something he never wants to share with anyone.Every time I bake this, I get specific instructions not to offer it to anyone and not to tell the guests about it. Over the years,I have changed the recipe slightly – added a bit of Cream of tarter to help with the egg whites and doubled the quantity cause who doesn’t like tall cheesecakes! But otherwise it remains fairly unchanged. …

Thai Coconut Shrimp Noodles

Coconut Curry Noodles

Today I have for you Thai Shrimp Coconut Curry Noodles.I am suffering from such a writers block lately that every time I start writing I only end up penning down a string of gibberish. It could be because we are planning our holiday to Thailand and there is little else I can think about. Thankfully, the block doesn’t extend to cooking otherwise I would really be in a fix now..though it would help me fit into my vacation clothes which I horde in anticipation of a holiday all year long. The only issue being, when the holiday actually comes along I always end up wanting to buy new clothes cause you know -vacation. Anyhow I don’t want to overwhelm you with my …

Basic Chinese Brown Sauce

Basic Chinese stir fry Sauce

Today’s recipe is Basic Chinese stir fry Sauce. So apparently Kylie Jenner gave birth to a baby..I chanced upon an article on her baby shower today which goes on to avert that if I didn’t know about her pregnancy then I probably live under a rock.I am online most of the day and am very regular on social media but somehow this news escaped me and made me an almost neanderthal as per the writer. A neanderthal who has always been fascinated by Chinese cuisine.I don’t mean the Indian Chinese, which by the way derserves a place in one of the best cuisines ever but here I mean the actual Real Chinese Food.Though the fact is that I have always struggled with …

Green Thai Curry Paste

Green Thai Curry Paste recipe with substitutes in case you don't get fresh Thai ingredients

There is something about Green Thai curry which just warmes up your soul. The steam wafting from a warm bowl of some Thai curry with well cooked soft white rice is just what I need at the end of long day to make me feel special. The magic that hugs the house when you make one can’t be explained in words. But making the Thai curry from homemade Green Thai Curry Paste is beyond explainable in mere words! Thai ingredients are seldom available locally but when they are, I end up acting like a child in a candy shop.Though thats probably me all the time when grocery shopping.Rarely do I get as much pleasure from anything else than shopping for food.I think all the …

Tamarind Chicken Wings

Spicy Tamarind Chicken Wings

My friends are hogs. They might be hoity toity with their clothes, languages and holidays but when it comes to chicken wings they are definitely completely boorish.I am not just hypothesizing here,I have good solid proof.I had 15 guests home for brunch (including me and Abhishek) out of which 2 people didn’t eat chicken so thats just 13 people..who finished 48 wings between themselves in one afternoon..and thats just half of my point…This small mountain range was consumed in conjunction with vietnamese summer rolls, nachos, mutton sliders and chocolate pinwheels. Amm and lunch, which was Mexican rice with tequila chicken and a red sauce pasta and..two kinds of cheese cakes. Believe me when I say ,I had no leftovers! I won’t claim to have come …

Quick Raw Papaya Salad

Raw Papaya Salad

One warning before you go on to make this dish ,till I am still smarting with the chillies I put in the salad. This salad absorbs everything you put in it and enhances the flavours many fold so don’t be trigger happy with the red chillies like I was! My usual foray into Star Bazaar to buy tomatoes ended up with me spending Rs 700.But this time I was smart.I saw a raw papaya tagged as Rs 350 in the “exotic” aisle and just as I was reaching for it I decided to curtail my budget, after all I have already spent this month’s budget last month so I am literally a pauper at the moment.Well , as in the typical hindi movie …

Rice Paper Rolls with Peanut Dipping Sauce

Rice Paper Rolls

Its hilarious when you overdo at the gym and walk out a second later fall on your ass and make a twisty out of your leg.And just like that you are cloistered for 3 weeks with a ligament tear! I had to cancel a number of my commitments for those weeks but still ended up attending a  youth camp(for not so youthful me) in Pune as a chaperone to my husbands 15 year old brother. The universe is shoving the fact that i am old now literally every two days on my face!Otherwise how do you explain the ligament tear when that’s pretty standard fall of mine.Give me 3 steps and watch me fall..but this time just to prove a point..take …

Mango and Jalapeno Crab

Mango and Jalapeno Crab

Instead of our yearly jaunt to Goa we decided to go to Varkala and Alleppey this time. Both the places were a food extravaganza! We devoured buckets of butter fish and prawns , literally fished out the minute before from the sea. We even experienced a very local way of fishing where the fisherman lay a long net in the sea and tether it to the beach overnight. In the morning like magic you pull the net out and voila!the sea has blessed you with tonnes of its treasure. It was all most like the game we used to play as kids at birthday parties called “tug of war” but with 20 burly man pulling with all their might on one side and the sea …

Fish in Orange Sauce

Fish in Orange Sauce

Two years back on our trip across europe ,travelling with my crazy, quirky set of friends we chanced upon a small seaside restaurant while searching for a club in Naples. We started out from Pompei to experience the “Night Life” of Naples and travelled 20 kms away from the city in search of the phantom all night open club. What we found instead was a lazy seaside restaurant where the only sound you could hear was of the waves crashing wildly against the rocks. We also heard later that we were better off at the restaurant than the actual “Nightlife” of Naples. Rumours say the nightlife of Naples is the not so discreet Mafia activities at the harbour! Our host at the airbnb spent …
